OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – The Opelousas Police Department (OPD) is currently on the scene of a drive-by shooting.

The shooting happened in the 1300 block of Henry Street when a red vehicle passed by and fired multiple shots at a home.

Police said three people were grazed by gunfire but no one accepted medical attention.

Detective Michael Hidalgo, with OPD, said, “We recovered approximately 60 pieces of evidence, including casings and some spun around. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a red, small red SU. I think one person was seen running down the street. Black Male appears to be a younger black male with a gray sweatshirt on who was running behind the vehicle.”

Crystal Garlow, a family member recounts the events of the shooting.

“I received a call from my mom saying that she heard over 20 shots which turned into more shots. I immediately came here, and then once I got here, I noticed that they had gunshots in the room bathroom, shot the car, and, you know, everybody was kind of shaking up. My mom was nervous and crying. They had a baby in the house,” Garlow said.

Garlow said many of her family members were grazed when they heard shots fired outside.

“One of my nephews was in bed lying out when the bullets shot went through the bed, and one was in the bathroom brushing his teeth when he heard the shots,” Garlow said. “He peeked out the window and saw vehicle whatever, and he immediately ran out of the bathroom and crawled on the floor, and he just kind of lay there. The 14-year-old was grazed on his knee and on his shoulder. They had a 15-year-old grazed on the left hand, and then the 16-year-old was grazed on his elbow.”

This is an active investigation and will be updated as information becomes available.
