OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)– Two people were struck with a firearm and hospitalized following an Opelousas shooting in the 800 Block of E. Jefferson Street shortly after 7:00 p.m, according to the Opelousas Police Department.
Two adult males that had a mutual female acquaintance got into a heated argument. One of the males got a handgun and began firing several rounds striking the male victim and a female that was in the area.
The male victim and female victim were both transported to a local hospital. The male victim suffered from serious to critical injures, and the female had a none-life threating injury to the lower leg area, according to OPD.
Authorities said the suspected shooter Isiah Pickney, 20, of Opelousas was arrested with the following charges:
- Attempted Second Degree Murder (2 Counts)
- Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property (2 Counts)
- Illegal Possession of a stolen firearm
- Illegal use of a dangerous weapon or instrumentalities
