UPDATE 1/10/23: The Opelousas Police Department have made many arrests in connection to the Jan. 4 shooting that occurred on Margie Pl.

Police learned that the shooting was a result of a planned robbery.

Police said the crime was planned and committed by all minors. The victim of the shooting allegedly met a minor aged female perpetrator through social media and they met at the victim’s residence at 600 Blk. of W. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.

At this residence, police said the victim was allegedly beaten and held at gunpoint. The victim was then taken from that location in his one vehicle in an attempt to make the victim get money from his house as demanded by the suspects.

The victim then attempted to flee into a friend’s home and was shot by the suspects.

The suspects fire many shots into the victim’s friend’s home and shot the victim once in the abdomen, police said.

The suspects then fled the scene in the victim’s car, which was found 1.6 miles away from the scene the next day.

Five minor aged suspects were involved, four males and one female. All suspects will be charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, attempted first degree murder, armed robbery and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.

Three of the suspects have been taken into custody with two more arrests to be made in the upcoming days by Opelousas Police. The three suspects arrested are in juvenile holding facilities.

The victim did not have life-threatening injuries.

ORIGINAL 1/4/23: OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — Opelousas Police are investigating a Wednesday shooting in which one person was wounded.

Police say one adult male victim appeared to have received a single gunshot wound in the 1200 block of Margie Place just after 8 p.m. Wednesday. The victim was transported to a local hospital in serious condition but is stable, authorities said.

According to investigators two suspects left the area after the shooting in a vehicle that belonged to a family member of the victim. The vehicle is described as a silver Ford Fusion with a black driver’s door. The suspects were described as young males wearing all dark clothing with masks and are believed to be armed with at least one firearm. It is suspected that the motive of the shooting may have been a robbery. The investigation is active and more details will be released at they become available.
