UPDATE: 04/26/23 5 P.M.: A 9-year-old girl unrestrained in the back seat of an SUV died Tuesday in a crash on Highway 190 near Lawtell.
State Police has identified the victim, but the family has asked that we not identify the child by name.
Two other passengers suffered moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment, police said.
The driver of the SUV, who was also unrestrained, suffered moderate injuries.
Logan Richard of Church Point was the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash.
Police cited him for failure to yield after his vehicle entered the inside lane of U.S. 190 eastbound from a highway crossover and struck the left rear of the SUV, causing it to overturn.
ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) State Police are investigating a fatal crash Tuesday near Lawtell.
The crash happened just after 5 p.m. on Highway 190, west of Lawtell.
Public Information Officer Trooper Thomas Gossen confirmed with News 10 that one person died in the crash.
The deceased, so far, has not been identified and circumstances surrounding the crash have not been released.
