UPDATE, 3/16: Opelousas Police (OPD) have identified the victim as Xavier Bryant, 22, of Opelousas.
OPD also said that Lentrell Gentris, 22, of Opelousas, was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following charges:
- Second degree murder
- Possession of firearm by a person convicted of felonies
- Illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities
- Obstruction of justice
- Failure to report the commission of certain felonies
OPD said that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.

ORIGINAL 3/15: OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – A man died in a shooting Wednesday in Opelousas, according to police.
It happened around 5 p.m. in the 800 block of Jerome Loop.
The male victim, police said, died at the scene.
Officers have detained several persons of interest in connection to the investigation.
