Seven additional suspects arrested in connection to Eunice hit-and-run

UPDATE: Seven suspects have been charged in connection to the death of a man found in an intersection in Eunice on March 2. 

Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said five passengers riding in the vehicle the night William “Billy” Heinen was killed surrendered to police today. 

Phillip Fontenot, 18, has been charged with hit-and-run with a fatality. His parents have been charged with accessory after the fact, Fontenot said.

Additional information on this investigation is expected to be released soon. 

ORIGINAL: Eunice Police say evidence located at the scene where a 60 year old man was found dead Friday night suggest the victim was struck or run over by a passing vehicle.

It happened just after 11 p.m. when Eunice police say they found an unresponsive male in the road near the intersection of W Maple Ave (LA 91) and Jelks Street. 

Evidence at the scene indicates the victim was struck by and/or run over by a vehicle, police said.

No vehicles were at the scene when officers arrived, police said.

The victim has been identified as 60-year-old William “Billy” Heinen, of Eunice, police said. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police Chief Randy Fontenot said his office is following a few leads.
