A fight in the stands during a Friday night football game in Cecilia led to one man being arrested, and a juvenile cited.
This altercation caused St. Martin Parish officials to re-evaluate safety protocol at all high school games. The interim superintendent, law enforcement, and the Principals from all three of the high schools in the parish met to discuss safety.
“After the events of last Friday nights football game between Breaux Bridge and Cecilia High, we met with law-enforcement to try to make sure that that type of thing doesn’t happen again. We are also putting procedures in place to ensure that this does not happen again,” says interim superintendent Allen Blanchard.
He says additional law-enforcement will be at all parish games and at all games where a large number of people are expected to turn out. A statement will also be read at the beginning of each game outlining safety protocol.
“If you pay to come into the stadium or the gymnasium for an athletic event and you leave, you will have to pay to re-enter, so once you get there you need to remade inside. Lastly, anyone who is arguing or creating a disturbance inside of the gymnasium, the principal or the law enforcement officer are going to go in and try to settle it down. If people refuse to settle down, they will be asked to leave,” Blanchard said.
“People engaging in those arguments and fights have no regard for the people around them and as a district, we will not tolerate that. People who come to games, if they are disruptive they will be asked to leave.”
