A reward is being offered for help in finding the person(s) responsible for shooting 5 cattle in the head, over the weekend, in Jeff Davis Parish.
According to the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Department, a farmer reported he discovered five of his cattle had been shot in the head with what appears to be a small caliber weapon.
Deputies responded and with the farmers assistance located approximately five cows with bullet wounds to the head in a pasture off Faul Road and Lone Pine Road, which is north of Welsh.
The cattle are still alive and grazing in the pasture, deputies said.
A reward is available through CRIMESTOPPERS for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in the shooting of these animals.
Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M. issued the following statement: “I urge all livestock owners to remain vigilant to protect your animals, check your fences, keep your gates locked and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
