Opelousas police identify suspects who jumped from moving vehicle Sunday

Opelousas Police have identified the two suspects who jumped from a moving vehicle Sunday morning with an 11 year old girl still inside.

Police say 17 year old Jon’torras Bryant & 19 year old Kelvin Monte, both of Opelousas have been identified as the two suspects who were inside a vehicle going 80 mph during a police chase.

11 year old Bryla Bell was a passenger in the vehicle and died after police say she took over the wheel and sped away from officers and struck an embankment.

She was originally reported missing Sunday by her mother who said she snuck out of the house through her bedroom window

Police did not say if the two males were in custody.

According to PIO Crystal Leblanc, due to jurisdictional reasons and prosecution of the case file, the St Landry Parish Sheriff’s will conduct the investigation on the criminal side due to this initially starting outside of the city limits of Opelousas.

Leblanc said the Opelousas City Police will conduct the investigation of the traffic crash resulting in the fatality and reconstruction of the scene.

St. Landry Parish PIO Eddie Thibodeaux says his office is “investigating the case and speaking to the two males.”
