Opelousas elementary classrooms vandalized in overnight break in

OPELOUSAS, La.- Park Vista Elementary School in Opelousas, received word from police at 4:30 Thursday morning concerning a school campus break in and vandalism. 

Principal Ulysse Joubert said they were told by police, that four people came broke into six classrooms overnight. The vandals sprayed fire extinguishers all over the classrooms and their walls. They also destroyed teaching equipment and made “a big mess” of the classrooms they entered.

Joubert said the school sent out an email to parents of students at about 6 a.m. The email asked parents that if anyone was available to please come and help clean up as much as possible before the school day started. Joubert says that about 40 parents volunteered time clean up the scene. 

All of the individuals who helped clean up the areas were able to clean and restore all but two of the classrooms as of 10:30 a.m.

Classes and testing will resume this this week, Joubert said. 

 A couple classes of students though have been moved to temporary rooms until the rest of the cleaning can be done, and the rooms restored.
