News 10 Morning Rush Headlines: September 21, 2018


Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • One person was injured in a shooting last night in New Iberia. Police have taken one person into custody in connection to the incident.
  • Former Ragin Cajun Softball Coach Michael Lotief filed a lawsuit against the University of Louisiana on Thursday on many claims that he was wrongfully terminated a year ago, saying allegations from 4 former players and coaches are untrue. The University has defended their action of firing him.
  • A motion to bring back Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Puyau failed four-to-four during Thursday night’s school board meeting. Puyau remains on leave. 
  • Governor John bel Edwards has said yesterday that giving teachers a pay raise is his number one priority going into next year’s legislative session. The Governor says he wants teachers to be paid $1,000 more annually and school support staff including bus drivers, custodians, classroom aides and secretaries to get $500 more per year. Teachers in Louisiana haven’t seen a raise since 2013.
  • The 42nd Annual Gueydan Duck Festival continues through Sunday. It features duck calling contests, live music, a carnival and more.
  • Downtown Alive! continues it’s 35th anniversary season tonight in the Hub City. Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band will take the stage at Parc International at 6:00 p.m. 
  • The Chanda Rubin Foundation and Step Up Acadianana are teaming up for a Back to 90’s Celebrity Tennis Tournament this weekend. The fundraising event is to benefit their mission of providing opportunity, scholarship and education to youth.
  • The Cleveland Browns were victorious after a 635 day losing streak. The NFL team beat the New York Jets on Thursday night. It’s their first win since December 2016.
  • This weekend, the New Orleans Saints take their first road trip of the regular season. On Sunday, they’ll face their NFC rivals, the Atlanta Falcons.
  • Scattered rain is possible for Acadiana today as we start to see slightly cooler temps during the afternoon. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 80’s along with a scattered rain chance, mainly during the afternoon and evening.
