News 10 Morning Rush Headlines: June 18, 2018


Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • Three children in Opelousas are being treated for their injuries after heavy tree branches fell on them Sunday afternoon. Mayor Reginald Tatum says the city is working with a tree surgeon to make sure someting like this doesn’t happen again.
  • The couple accussed of skipping out on the bill at a Lafayette restaurant last week has been arrested. Both were booked on theft charges into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
  • Edward Nickson III is wanted in connection to a shooting Friday night that left one man injured in Rayne. If you know of his whereabouts, you’re asked to call police.
  • Is third time the charm? State lawmakers head back to the capitol today for the third special session of the year. This is the last attempt to address the fiscal cliff that the state faces in the July 1st budget.
  • Today, DOTD will close the Highway 14 downtown bridge in Abbeville for repairs, which could take weeks to complete. Alternate routes will be posted.
  • Accodring to LCG Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux, the Surrey Street bridge is set to reopen in August. The bridge has been closed for repairs since October of last year.
  • The Louisiana Community and Technical College System has agreed to not back system-wide fee hikes next school year. Individual program fees may still rise.
  • Last night, a watch party was held in Downtown Lafayette for the Acadiana-featured episode of Anthony Bourdain’s ‘Parts Unknown’. Proceeds from the party went to suicide prevention non-profit organizations.
  • This week’s Acadiana Local Music Spotlight features Acadiana native Opera singer, Sasha massey and New Jersey native pianist, Jake Spinella.
  • On and off tropical showers and storms will be likely again today. Skies will be cloudy with a high in the 80s along with showers, storms, and gusty winds.
