Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • St. Martin Parish Deputies are investigating a weekend shooting that left one person dead and another injured. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office.
  • Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed a 65-year-old man in Jeanerette Friday night. Anyone with information should call Jeanerette Police.
  • Lafayette has seen a recent increase in car burglaries. Authorities say of those burglaries, five handguns have been stolen. They believe those guns are being used in crimes across the city.
  • New Iberia Police arrested a man in possession of 30 packs of synthetic narcotics over the weekend. He’s facing multiple charges including possession with intent to distribute.
  • A Kaplan man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly setting his stepfather’s shed on fire. He was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on one count of simple arson.
  • Police say that a shooting in New Orleans that killed three people and injured seven others may be gang-related. Officials have found evidence suggesting the Saturday shooting that killed two men and one woman is tied to gang-violence.
  • A Mississippi man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Pineville Saturday afternoon. Louisiana State Police are investigating the shooting. The officer was not injured.
  • Long-time Cajundome Director Greg Davis, has announced he will retire at the end of the current fiscal year. He sites a decline in the local economy as factor to step down. He served as director for 33 years.
  • The House of Representatives passed legislation to authorize the National Flood Insurance program for another four months. But the current policy is set to expire tomorrow. If it’s not renewed, about 500,000 policy holders will no longer have flood insurance. 
  • Scattered rain is possible for Acadiana today. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a high in the low 90’s along with a scattered rain chance, mainly during the afternoon and evening.
