Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • Officers are investigating the death of a newborn in Jennings. James Ray Miller was charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Miller admitted to investigators he shook his 7-week-old baby. Depending on the results of the autopsy, Miller’s charges could be upgraded to first-degree murder.
  • The juvenile forced to live in a shed for three weeks will be transferred into another relative’s custody. The juvenile has not lived at the home since the day of his mother’s arrest.
  • New Iberia Police are looking for two women who stole a pick up truck. The SUV was reportedly stolen from Lafayette.
  • Donna Lanceslin, mayor of the town of Baldwin has withdrawn from the upcoming race only three days after qualifying. The mayor says negative remarks made during executive session of Monday’s town hall meeting and wanting to spend more time with family aided her decision to opt out.
  • Transportation Officials with the Lafayette Parish School System say they are ready for the school year, and as they say last year was the first year they use a new bus route system so they had to work out some minor kinks. You can find out your child’s bus route information, on LPSS’ website.
  • It may be impossible to completely beat the summer heat but there are a few things you can do to keep your AC working efficiently during the summer. If you your AC up before you leave your home in an effort to save money, you might be hurting more than helping. Butcher AC recommends you don’t turn off your AC before leaving your home, it could end up costing more to cool your home in the long run.
  • The Iberia Parish Animal Shelter is looking to get about 50 dogs and cats adopted by noon today.
  • Gulf Brew 2018 returns to Lafayette this weekend. attendees will be able to sample over 200 beers from local breweries and distributors. This event benefits the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
  • The Louisiana Outdoor Expo and Boat Show returns to the Cajundome this weekend. From fishing, camping and boating the list goes on of how they’re keeping the tradition alive. Kicks off today at 3:00 p.m.
  • A few showers are possible on this Friday as the humidity begins to creep up across the area. Skies will be partly cloudy with a high in the mid 90’s. The heat index will be around 100-107° with a few showers and storms during the afternoon.
