News 10 Morning Rush Headlines: December 7, 2018


Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • Students from five Lafayette Parish Elementary Schools could be heading to different schools by next August. It’s because of the new Billeaud Elementary School currently being built in Broussard, the School Board has to create a new zone for the school.
  • A bomb scare prompted the evacuation of a hotel Thursday night in Lafayette. Police say they swept the building located on Kaliste Saloom Road before letting the guests back in.
  • A Duson man trying to sell an iPhone to a man he met on Snapchat was shot twice in what police are calling an attempted homicide and robbery. It happened early Wednesday morning in Broussard.
  • Lafayette Police say the number of homicides in the city are down 50% from last year. There have been 11 homicides so far this year, compared to 24 last year.
  • A hay shortage is affecting the cattle industry in Vermilion Parish. One local cattleman says the recent weather conditions have affected the harvesting of hay.
  • Louisiana Congressman Ralph Abraham announced he will run for Governor. He’s the second Republican to announce he will challenge Democratic incumbent John bel Edwards in the 2019 Gubernatorial election.

  • The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center will hold their Second Saturday Adoption event this Saturday.
  • The New Orleans Saints head to the Sunshine State to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Can the Black & Gold bounce back and get another win streak going in the final weeks of the regular season? Kick-off is set for Noon on Sunday.
  • Rain chances return today with a few showers and storms in Acadiana. Skies will be cloudy today as we see temps into the upper 60’s. Rain chances will be at 30%.
