New Iberia Police have been busy lately and find themselves investigating another shooting.
It happened on Mississippi Street around 9:05 p.m. Saturday night.
Donovan Davis, Evangelist and Community Activist, said, “The senselessness of it. We’ve had defenselessness. We’ve all had fights and different things of that nature and murders but not to the rate. I think to the rate of which it is. It is at an alarming rate.”
News 10 asked, “Donovan, what are your thoughts on this being the third shooting of the week in New Iberia?”
“It makes me feel like we’re not doing enough and so as community leaders as business leaders school teachers it just make me feel like we’re just not doing enough of what we can do to help out our children clear out economic development jobs for them that they can have that will divert their energy and divert their focus in to being positive and being productive,” added Davis.
Davis says residents who participate in violence are trying to resolve issues with no guidance nor direction.
“Our youth today, they’ve lost the concept of God and they’ve lost the concept of family and that’s why their feelings toward each other are rigid and unflexible and there’s no other outlet or alternative.”
News 10 spoke to residents close by to where the shooting occurred who did not want to appear on camera, but say this violence has to stop.
New Iberia Police said the investigation is ongoing.
One person received non-life-threatening injuries. Two persons of interest were detained.
