A Memorial day service was held at Bouligny Plaza to commemorate those who gave up their lives for our country.
Veterans of Foreign Wars post 1982 put together Monday’s ceremony to remind the public of the true meaning of Memorial Day.
“It’s more than a barbecue. It’s more than going to the beach. It’s more than spending time with your family. That is all good, but let’s remember what the true meaning of Memorial Day is… It’s to memorialize our veterans who gave it all,” says Willard Landry, VFW post 1982 commander.
During the service, the crowd saw a flag ceremony, a 21 gun salute, and a harmony of patriotic music.
Those who attended had a few words for our fallen soldiers.
“Thank you. You gave it all for us to continue doing what we do,” said Landry.
Roxanne Watkins adds, “I want to thank them and their family as well for all that they’ve put in to our country. For our safety and for our opportunities that we have today.”
