Mother still searches for closure, as officials find animal remains in Opelousas home

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – No human remains were found Wednesday evening, after law enforcement officials searched a home in Opelousas for hours,    hoping to find more information on where Erica Hunt may be, a little over 2 years after her disappearance.

Authorities were searching what appeared to be a vacant home located on Hirsch Alley, the last place Hunt was seen.

“I want that closure, I need that closure,” said Shannon Isaac, Erica Hunt’s mother.

The family of Erica Hunt tells News 10 that she was last seen in the area 2 years ago on July 4, 2016. That’s why Opelousas Police along with other agencies, were out in full force looking for her possible remains.

“One of the supervisors on the Patrol Division received some information. They later made contact with cadaver dogs who did come out and alerted in some areas, and then that stemmed into today where we contacted LA Faces to give us some assistance in regards to locating some remains,” said Crystal LeBlanc with Opelousas Police Department.

But after hours of investigating, authorities revealed the remains belonged to those of animals, and not a human.

“We were able to confirm today that she’s not there. It definitely takes our investigation in a different direction, but like I said, I’m hoping that this generates more leads and we can continue to follow up,” said LeBlanc.

But with the hope of finding her suddenly disappearing, this opened fresh wounds for Hunt’s family, who was already hurting so much.

“Whoever did it, how how could you do this to my child, knowing that she was energetic, got along with everybody that I know of,” exclaimed Isaac.

And for now, Erica’s family is hoping to one day, they’ll finally have closure.

“I go to work, pray every night that she come back to us. No matter how she come back, dead or alive,” said Isaac.

If you have any information on this case or where Hunt may be, you’re urged to call authorities.
