St. Landry officials find 175 dogs living in one home, violating parish’s cruelty ordinance

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- St. Landry Parish Animal Control and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department executed a search warrant this afternoon, confiscating 175 dogs all found living in one home in "untenable conditions."

Parish Public Information Officer Van Reed said the dogs were found at a residence between Opelousas and Grand Coteau after receiving a tip. The homeowner was allegedly breeding the dogs to sell online.

Family members seeking justice, saying an accused killer is now living with victim’s ex and children

RAYNE, La., (KLFY) -- 38-year-old Dalvin Washington, a father to eight, was killed in a shooting in late September 2020.

Just days later, Trey Prejean, 27, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The shooting happened near the intersection of Arceneaux Drive and the Boulevard. Police say Washington did not live on Arceneaux Drive but was visiting his children before the oldest went to school.

LCG collecting hazardous household waste at Cajundome March 6

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Lafayette Consolidated Government will hold a hazardous household waste collection day at the Cajundome on March 6 from 8 a.m. until noon. Residents in the City of Lafayette and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish are encouraged to bring their unwanted household chemicals to be recycled or properly disposed.

Items typically brought in include paint, paint products, poison, chemical cleaners, gasoline, fluorescent tubes, alkaline batteries, and mercury. Due to several factors, LCG is unable to accept electronics at this event.
