Lynn Williams, Longtime UL Lafayette Equipment Manager, dies

UL Lafayette’s equipment manager, Lynn Williams, who served more than 30 years with the Ragin’ Cajuns, passed away Wednesday night.

It was a job he loved, and he was loved in return by the many student-athletes and staff he impacted over the many seasons he worked with the university.

Lynn passed away at his home in Lafayette surrounded by his family.

He served as equipment manager since 1985 directly overseeing men’s sports and assists with football.

A Lafayette native and a graduate from Northside High School, Lynn previously served five years as a student manager at UL.

And, Leonard Wiltz who also worked for the University for more than 40 years, passed away at his home in Lafayette last Thursday.

Leonard was a student of Lafayette High School and graduated in 1977.

According to his obituary, he worked and retired from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette after 35 years of service and later returned as a part-time employee in the Athletic Department.

He was a dedicated and loyal employee who enjoyed traveling with the football team.

He served in many capacities with the department, bringing a tireless work ethic, an engaging smile, and a quick joke.

Statement from Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard

“The entire Louisiana Athletics family mourns the loss of these two special individuals. Both Leonard and Lynn dedicated their lives to the service of the University of Louisiana and its student-athletes. The impact they had on so many people will serve as their legacy, and both will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families.”
