
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- 7:15 p.m. UPDATE: The victim is a 32-year-old described as Hymel’s ex-boyfriend. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and has since been released.
5:15 p.m. UPDATE: Authorities say the man who barred himself inside a Lafayette home is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He has been identified by Lafayette police as 64-year-old Malcolm Hymel.
The shooting remains under investigation.
4 p.m. UPDATE: SWAT has positioned closer to the home as the standoff continues. Authorities believe the suspect is still inside the home.
One victim remains hospitalized after a shooting that occurred shortly after 12 p.m.
It is unclear whether it occurred inside or outside the home, police said.

1:30 p.m. UPDATE: Authorities are attempting to negotiate the surrender of a suspect connected to shooting off Jefferson Street.
Lafayette Police Department spokesperson Cpl. Bridgette Dugas said one person was shot at home near Orange Street. The suspect was reportedly last seen entering the residence in the 500 block of Jefferson Street.
“We are currently negotiating his surrender,” Dugas told News 10 at about 1:30 p.m. SWAT is also at the scene.

ORIGINAL: Lafayette police are investigating a shooting on Jefferson Street near the Evangeline Thruway.
One person sustained non-life threatening injuries, Lafayette Police Department spokesperson Cpl. Bridgette Dugas said.
Authorities are reportedly attempting to detain a suspect who is inside a home near the intersection of Jefferson and Orange streets.

Drivers be advised that traffic is being rerouted off the thruway at this time.
