Local MMA fighter, Keland ‘The Power Ranger’ Simmons, died in a 18-wheeler crash this weekend. He was one of 4 who died, including his mother, Yolanda Simmons.
Keland was a member of Gladiators Academy Lafayette, and although his academy family is mourning his loss, they say he left a positive impact on everybody at the gym.
“The kid was always having fun and there was always a smile on his face when he was here and that is what he gave our team,” says manager, Josh Artigue.
Keland joined Gladiators Academy when they first opened their doors and Artigue says he set an example to those around him, “He had fun with what he was doing. He learned, he developed, and grew. He really gave what it means to be a martial artist to the team.”
Artigue says Keland’s legacy will live on forever at the academy, “In our community we remember the people that came before us that were the trailblazers and the people to go out in front and test the theories. So I will say this, Keeland will always have a place of honor here at the academy.”
