LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) – GRS Properties, the owners of Parc Lafayette, provided about 100 people with some nice, new shiny furniture.
“Our owner purchased all of this inventory to furnish a hotel that he had plans to build, and when the flood hit he decided he was going to donate the inventory to flood victims,” said John Bienvenu, Vice President of Development for GRS Properties.
The furniture was up for grabs Thursday afternoon on a first come, first serve basis.
“It’s been overwhelming how kind and helpful everyone has been, and the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, strangers, and people loading furniture for you. It’s truly wonderful,” said Lafayette resident, Abby Nicolosi.
“We appreciate everything that the people are doing for the people that are flooded out and the donations that they’re giving,” said Lafayette resident, Cleveland Stiner.
Bienvenu says the company gave away more than 200 pieces of furniture.
“We’ve gone through about 85 armoires that have mini fridges, safes, and a tv in them. We had about 135 bedside tables and we also had some desks and cocktail tables,” said Bienvenu.
All given away in a 3-day period.
“They’re definitely in a time of need and it’s nice to be able to give back to the community,” said Bienvenu.
The furniture was given away in a matter of minutes, but most of the recipients say they were just appreciative for the event.
