Firefighters battled a huge blaze Tuesday night at Bunkie Wood Products, Inc., also known as Hoop Mill, on Highway 71, according to KALB TV.
No injuries were reported and arson is not suspected.
Bert Cochran, partner with Louisiana Hoop Company, estimates the damages to be around $600,000.
No employees were in the building at the time of the fire and Cochran believes the fire started because a branding iron was accidentally left on.
The mill has about 30 employee and was built sometime in the 1930’s, KALB reports.
The wood storage building sustained the majority of the damage.
Firefighters from Hessmer, Evergreen, Mansura, Marksville, Cheneyville, Lecompte and Evangeline assisted the Bunkie Volunteer Fire Department.
