JENNINGS, La. (KLFY) – Sheriff’s patrol units in Jefferson Davis Parish will be displaying “In God We Trust” decals after a donation from the Lake Arthur First Baptist Church.

Sheriff Ivy Woods said in a news release:

“We are very appreciative of the Church’s donation to provide the decals for our units.  When we first talked about displaying the decals and how to fund the cost, we were approached by several business owners who offered to fund the project.

Our department is proud to support our official nation’s motto, passed by Congress in 1956 and signed into law by president Dwight D. Eisenhower. In the times, we’re in right now and how law enforcement is viewed negatively, we are looking for something positive.”

It is an opportunity to show our patriotism.  And make sure citizens of this parish know that the deputies patrolling are there to protect them.  We want people to feel safe and trust that the deputies are there to help them.

Citizens who see the display of the nation’s motto on the sheriff’s patrol vehicles should be proud and trust in their law enforcement and civic leaders.”
