Lafayette VA Clinic now accepting patients

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Today was the first day the VA Clinic opened its doors for patients.

After waiting almost seven years, veterans are finally able to take advantage of the VA Clinic in Lafayette.

“Everybody that served the country, the country needs to serve them now,” said Army veteran Michael Guidry, “and that’s what’s happening. And that’s beautiful.”

Patients lined up in the lobby eager to see the new clinic.

One patient, Lindsey Halley, served in the Army for 28 years.

“I joined the army in 1978,” said Halley, “Then spent some time in Germany. I got out of the Army, came back into reserves. I’ve been a part of all the wars since then. The Gulf war, I also did two tours in Iraq. And in May of 2014, I retired.”

Halley is thrilled to finally have a clinic nearby that is specific to veterans.

“The Army, Navy, Air Force, marines we all did something different,” said Halley, “So we need to have those different clinics to take care of our different medical needs.””

Not only does the new facility provide convenience to veterans but it is expanding health care options as well

“We’re going to be expanding radiology, we’re expanding physical therapy, we’re expanding dental care here so it’s a tremendous day,” said Alexandria VA Health Care Systems Director Peter Dancy, “I think the veterans in this community are very excited and they have much to be proud about.”

The clinic is located at 3131 Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Lafayette and will be opened Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The phone number for the new clinic is (337) 706-3415.
