The Lafayette Police Department is investigating after a teenager jumped from a moving vehicle during an argument with her mother after her cell phone was taken away.

According to police, 15-year-old Markayla Nicole Lewis is now considered a missing teen and runaway.

Police say the incident occurred on the corner of Congress Street at West University.

A police report obtained by KLFY says that Lewis became angry with her mother after not being allowed to attend a skating party event and having her cell phone taken away.

“During the argument, Lewis jumped out of the vehicle and fled the area on foot,” the report states.

Before fleeing, the mother told police that Lewis advised that she was going to kill herself.

According to family, Lewis suffers from mental issues and has not taken her medication in weeks.

She was last seen wearing blue jeans, black jacket, with her hair in braids.

Family members say Lewis may be in the company of an adult male.
