Lafayette Speller to National Spelling Bee in Washington DC

Lafayette, La. (Kiwanis Club) – The Kiwanis Club of Lafayette and the Kiwanis Club of Acadiana are pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Kiwanis Regional Spelling Bee, held March 22nd at the South Louisiana Community College campus. Students from 8 parishes competed in 2 separate spelling bees, and the Grand Champion is Alyssa Walker of Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy in Youngsville, who wins an expense-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee during the week of May 26, 2019.

Winners of the 3rd – 5th grade bee are 3rd place: Brianna Tor (St. Michael Catholic School in Crowley), 2nd place: Libby Caillier (St. Bernard School in Breaux Bridge), 1st place: Beatrice Long (John Paul the Great Academy in Lafayette).

Winners of the 6th – 8th grade bee are 3rd place: Mya Arceneaux (Carencro Catholic School), 2nd place: Ella Menard (Cathedral Carmel School in Lafayette) and Grand Champion Alyssa Walker (Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy).
