UPDATE: 04/05/22 5:05 p.m.: Lafayette Police were out in full force Tuesday in search of a shooting suspect near two schools.

Police Spokesperson Sgt. Robin Green said a driver in a silver vehicle was trying to get away from a person on foot who fired multiple rounds.

The driver of the vehicle escaped, but not before crashing into an AC unit at an apartment complex.

She said the vehicle then fled the area.

An eyewitness, who wants to remain anonymous, describes to our own Rodricka Taylor what happened.

“I looked, and the guy had the gun in his hand. The car came through. His bumper fell off the front or the back. I don’t know which one it was even.”

She says she was on her patio with her dog when the shots rang out.

“You couldn’t see inside the car. The tint was so black, I was trying to see, but you couldn’t even see the person whatsoever. I don’t know if that little guy in the car is hurt or what. I think about that too.”

She says she is now afraid and can no longer live in the area.

“I’m moving. It’s not good here. We see everything that’s going on, drug trafficking. They gunned down my mailbox. They walk through your yard. It’s all too much.”
