UPDATE, 3/19, 2:28 p.m.: The evacuation order is officially lifted and all roads are now open, according to SFD.
UPDATE, 3/19: Offloading of the hazardous material has resumed, according to the Scott Fire Department (SFD).
SFD said that after several attempts throughout the night, fire and hazmat personnel were unable to transfer the 45,000 pounds of acrylic acid. SFD also said that specialized equipment would be arriving this morning.
The 100-yard evacuation is back in effect and SFD asks you to avoid the area until further notice.
ORIGINAL, 3/18: SCOTT, La. (KLFY) – Scott Police are currently on the scene of a hazardous material roll over.
Scott Police said that a tractor trailer full of a hazardous material rolled over on the 200 blk. of Mills.
The tractor trailer was transporting acrylic acid.
According to police, “As a result of the hazards associated with the chemical, officials will be forced to remove the product from the wrecked trailer into another trailer.”
Prior to the transport, 100 yards radius around the area will be evacuated as well as streets closed.
Once the acid has been safely transferred, residence will be allowed back into their homes and roads will be reopen, police said.
They are anticipating the transfer to begin around 9 p.m., lasting throughout the night.
Police ask that you avoid the area until further notice.
