UPDATE, 1:25 p.m.: Lafayette Police has arrested Vinnie Gary, 32, of Lafayette in connection with the crash, authorities said.
Gary has been charged with Careless Operation of a Vehicle with Crash, Insurance Violation, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
The wreck has been cleared and all lanes are now open, police said.
Police said that minutes prior to the crash, Maurice Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on one of the vehicles involved in the crash. This attempted traffic stop occurred within the jurisdiction of the Maurice Police Department. The driver of the suspect vehicle, an adult male, refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
Authorities said the pursuit was ended by Maurice Police Department prior to entering the city of Lafayette, but the suspect continued traveling at a high rate of speed which resulted in the vehicle crash at approximately 10:42 a.m.
ORIGINAL STORY: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Lafayette Police are currently on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on Johnston St.
According to Lafayette Police, The crash happened in the 6600 block of Johnston St. heading into the city. The crash caused one of the vehicles to overturn. One person has been transported to a local hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
This crash is currently under investigation and an update will be provided as more information becomes available.
