ORIGINAL STORY: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Around 10:30 p.m., the Lafayette Police Department reported being on the scene of a shooting at La Bamba Lounge.
According to authorities, the shooting happened outside the La Bamba Lounge where two people were shot Sunday night.
When police arrived, they found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound.
“As a result of this, our officers engaged a subject that was in possession of a firearm. So, it lead to an officer-involved shooting,” said Sgt. Robin Green.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop I’s Thomas Gossen, Lafayette Police requested LSP to investigate the officer discharging their weapon during the shooting as well.
According to LSP, when shots rang out at La Bamba, a responding officer working security detail also discharged his weapon. One person was shot by the officer. The officer was not injured.
He was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. His identity has not been released.
The person initially found by police in the parking lot was last listed in stable condition, according to authorities.
Lafayette Police are investigating the initial shooting. State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
“So whatever force was used by that officer in this instance, a shooting occurred, an officer-involved shooting. We are going to look at the specifics surrounding that officer and when he discharged, and fired his weapon. That’s the investigation the Louisiana State Police is in charge of,” said Gossen.
The investigation is ongoing. More information will be released as it becomes available.
