LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Lafayette Fire Department responded to a commercial fire at Evangeline Maid bakery early this morning. The factory is located in the 700 block of West Simcoe Street.

Officials said the fire started at about 5 a.m. Thursday and was in one oven, which overheated. A 12-foot section of the roof was melted, but there was no serious damage. However, they are doing a damage assessment to make sure all production and service machines are in good working order.

The fire was put out within 15 minutes, according to Fairly Painter, the bakery’s general manager.

Painter said the bakery is still running and he did not expect production or supply of Evangeline Maid bread to be affected by the fire.

The business was founded by the Huval family in Youngsville back in 1919 and moved to Lafayette in 1926.
