LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– According to Fire Department Spokesperson Alton Trahan, Lafayette Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls about smoke coming from the back of a home around 6:30 p.m. The home was located in the 100 block of Bunche Street near St. Antoine.
When crews arrived, they discovered flames coming from the roof above the carport. The flames quickly spread to the attic and a large section of the roof, according to Spokesperson Trahan.
The heat from the fire damaged electrical lines, causing LUS to disconnect power to other homes in the area. Services were restored when the fire was out. Firefighters battled the flames for half an hour.
Four people were home when the fire started. None of them were injured.
Fire officials determined the fire started on the exterior of the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
