YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) — Two people are under arrest in Lafayette Parish following the discovery of body inside a vehicle, authorities said.

According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, investigators arrested 19-year-old Angel Arrellano Cortez and Gerardo Bojoquez Zamora, 28, Thursday morning in connection with the homicide, which occurred Thursday near the 300 block of Austin Road.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as Paul Ramirez, 43 of Lafayette.

Valerie Ponseti with LPSO says within hours of the body being discovered, they narrowed down the suspects to Cortez and Zamora.

“Throughout the course of the investigation, whether that be physical evidence or interviews, our investigators were able to come up with the probable cause necessary to get those two warrants drawn up and executed for second degree murder for both of those men,” Ponseti explained.

It’s currently unclear if Ramirez died in the vehicle or was brought there posthumously. His cause of death has not yet been released.

The suspects are now being held in the Lafayette Parish Jail, each on a 500,000 bond.

“We have been able to unfortunately notify the family…but we’re also happy to have those individuals in custody so we can get the justice process started and that family is able to properly mourn the loss of their loved one,” said Ponseti.
