LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) Following growing controversy surrounding a Drag Queen Story Time event scheduled for early October at the Lafayette Public Library, Board of Control President Joseph Gordon-Wiltz has submitted his letter of resignation, according to library board members.
Gordon-Wiltz, who is an appointee of Mayor-President Joel Robideaux, dated the resignation effective immediately, board members tell KLFY.
The e-mail from Gordon-Wiltz reads:
“Good afternoon, Mr. Robideaux.
I respectfully tender my resignation from the Lafayette Public Library Board of Control, effective immediately. In light of the pending response to the request for information regarding library programming, should you need any further information from me once Library Director Teresa Elberson produces an official response, then do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for allowing me the awesome opportunity to represent your interests on the Board.
Mayor-President Joel Robideaux sent Gordon-Wiltz an e-mail asking him about the various Library programs. The e-mail reads:
Gordon-Wiltz was appointed as Board President by Library Board of Control members last November. His term would’ve been up in October of this year.
“I’ve enjoyed working with him and I think the other board members have too. He brought wisdom and a different perspective to the Library Board. I had the greatest respect for his opinion, I sought his opinion about a lot of different things. He just brought a lot to the board and I was just excited he was the appointment,” said Teresa Elberson, Director of the Lafayette Public Library System.
Developing story. More to follow.
