Pope was in court today to request a change of venue for his upcoming trial.
District Judge David Smith ordered to “move to trial”, thus moving forward with court proceedings. The motion to change the venue is still pending.
In November 2016, Pope was indicted on perjury and malfeasance charges stemming from the public records case and his sworn testimony about using his office for his campaign.
Today, request to suppress evidence, including emails, was denied this morning by Judge Smith.
A motion to severe Pope’s malfeasance charges, which his attorney claims “are not not factually related”, was also denied by Smith.
