The City of Jeanerette will welcome a new mayor in office on July 1st.
Carol “Bro” Bourgeois defeated incumbent April Foulcard in the March 30th election.
“During election, a lot of folks really got engaged and I thank them for it,” says Bourgeois.
When Bourgeois takes office he will be the cities first part-time mayor.
This change comes after the council passed an ordinance in December. Bourgeois says, “My take on it all is that as a civic leader, the chief public servant of the community you are a full-time public servant and that goes for all of the council members.”
This past March the city’s finances were taken over by the state after the city couldn’t produce an audit for the past three years.
The day to day operations of the city of Jeanerette has been handled by fiscal administration, David Greer.
“There’s a lot of work that is being done so that we make sure that we are in good shape as a community.
I am positive as soon as myself and the new council coming in, when we can prove that we are capable of managing our own affairs we will just take off running with it,” says Bourgeois.
