If you drive down I-49 in Carencro, You will see a number of new businesses and strip mall right off the interstate. Years ago, Kevin Fontenot’s father-in-law opened up Melancon storage in Carencro.
He had the vision that this area would eventually develop and now the time has come, Fontenot said.
“My wife’s father envisioned the development in Carencro,” Fontenot said.
Todd Citron, of Hub City Ford, said his grandfather also had foresight to see the future. He also felt upper Lafayette was the best place for his up-and-coming car dealership.
“My grandfather thought this was the place to be,” say Citron.
Bradley Black, with the Upper Lafayette Economic Development Foundation, said more land for development is being eyed in Carencro and Scott.
Opening a business or building a home in upper Lafayette also has another advantage.
“People don’t like to deal with the traffic in south Lafayette,” Citron said. “You can get around quicker in upper Lafayette.”
