Iberia Parish LEAP scores show improvement across the parish


Students in Iberia Parish exceeded state averages in English and math during the most recent LEAP testing.

Iberia Parish received a 39 percent mastery score on the recent LEAP test. 

“Which means that we improve if you do apples to apples, we improve two percentage points. But if you do apples to oranges we improved three,” says Superintendent Carey Laviolette. 

This year‘s testing including high school courses that were not previously rated. Algebra 1, geometry, English one and two were included in this test period. 

“Math is a struggle for a lot of districts, but we are 13th in the state with a number of master and advanced scores on the math LEAP test,” says the superintendent. 

Laviolette says social studies is one area where the parish needs to see improvement. She says, “I think that’s the case throughout the state. It’s a new test it still remains something that we have to focus our attention on,” Laviolette said.

Dodson and Park Elementary schools where two schools that saw the most improvement in test scores this year.

The superintendent says the data they get from the LEAP testing is extremely important in figuring out where students need to be placed and what curriculum they need to spend more time. School starts here in Iberia Parish on August 8th.
