UPDATE:  Lafayette police arrested two men following a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon that ended along Kaliste Saloom Road.

21 year old Kavan Broussard is currently behind bars on charges including possession of a stolen firearm, and resisting an officer.

21 year old Gene Williams III is also behind bars on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting an officer, possession of a stolen firearm, possession with the intent to distribute “crack cocaine”, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance in a school zone, two counts of hit and run, possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, possession of adderall and possession of stolen property.

According to Abbeville Police Department, the chase started on North Louisiana Avenue in Abbeville, then to Erath, through Youngsville and into Lafayette along Ambassador Caffery where the suspect’s vehicle struck another vehicle near Frem Boustany Dr., and continued to flee.

Sgt. Olivier wth Lafayette PD said the suspects then traveled onto Kaliste Saloom Road and struck another vehicle near its intersection with Long Plantation Rd.

The pursuit ended at that point and the suspects fled on foot, Olivier said. Officers gave chase and were able to take both suspects into custody without further incident.

A stolen firearm and illegal narcotics were also found during the arrest.

Oliver said the persons involved in the crashes were treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The Abbeville Police Dept. has taken over the investigation.

Chief Bill Spearman says the stolen vehicle was taken out of Lafayette, the license plate was from UL’s campus, and the gun was stolen out of Vermilion Parish and could be connected with a homiicde, according to a tip the Abbeville PD received.

The gun will be processed at the Acadiana Crime Lab and tested to see if they were used in any open homicide cases in Lafayette.

Spearman credits the team work done by all law enforcement agencies on Sunday, to capture the suspects.
