Heavy Showers and Storms Likely Thursday with a Low Threat for Severe Weather in Acadiana

Local

Showers and storms are expected to spread into Acadiana on Thursday from approximately 2:00am to 3:00pm.  Rainfall could be heavy at times with a threat for flash flooding and there is also a threat for severe weather.

Models currently show between 1″ to 3″ inches of rain that will be widespread for the area, but in this type of setup, some isolated areas could receive over 4″ inches of rain Thursday.  Until the system moves into Acadiana, it’s nearly impossible to know where and how much each town may receive.  Flash flooding looks to be the main concern with tomorrow’s disturbance as the grounds are already saturated from last Thursday.

On top of the flash flooding threat, Acadiana could see a few strong to severe storms.  The threat looks low at this time but damaging and/or a weak tornado is possible.  The greatest threat for severe weather would be during the afternoon, if the atmosphere can destabilize enough after the expected rains we see in the morning.  We will still need to monitor for severe weather throughout the entire day.

Be weather aware on Thursday and please do not drive across any flooded roads you may encounter.
