St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said Sunday that a Good Samaritan pushed a woman and her small child to safety prior to being shot.
It happened last Thursday when St. Landry Parish Sheriff Deputies responded to the 500 block of Durosseau Road in reference to a shooting.
According to Guidroz, two victims sustained gunshot wounds from an argument.
He said witnesses reported seeing the suspects flee the scene in a white Chevrolet Avalanche prior to deputies arrival.
While responding, Guidroz said, deputies located the suspects vehicle and detained the suspects.
An investigation has revealed that Daliyah West, Ronald Guillory, Courtney Thomas, and Ro’mond C. Bruno drove to the home of Devonta Major so that Ronald Guillory could fight with him.
According to Guidroz, Devonta Major is the ex-boyfriend of Daliyah West.
He said two of the suspects, Ronald Guillory and Ro’Mond Bruno exited the vehicle and both brandished a pistol firing multiple shots in the direction of Major and another bystander, striking them.
Guillory and Bruno then re-entered the vehicle and began to drive away, Guidroz said.
Courtney Thomas, who was also inside the vehicle, took one of the guns and fired several shots while they were fleeing, Guidroz said.
When the suspects noticed deputies pursing them, Bruno exited the vehicle evading capture. He was later located and brought into the sheriff’s office by his mother.
It wasn’t until further in the investigation, according to Guidroz, that they discovered that there was a woman and her two year old child standing outside the home when the shooting began but was pushed to safety by an unidentified bystander who was shot in the abdomen.
He said DeVonta Major sustained a gunshot to the neck.
Both are listed in stable condition in an area hospital.
The four suspects were booked into the parish jail:
Daliyah West, age 20, of Opelousas, accessory after the fact to attempted 1st degree murder
Courtney Thomas, age 27, of Opelousas, principal to attempted 1st degree murder, illegal use of weapons, possession of firearm by a felon
