Fire crews respond to residential fire in Lafayette Parish


Breaking news in Lafayette parish: 

One home has been damaged after a fire broke out overnight. Few details are available at this time, but we do know that Lafayette Fire crews were called to the scene in the 100th block of Karen Drive near Johnston Street just before 12:45 a.m.

One eyewitness tells News 10 that the house was vacant and work was being done to the home so that it could be sold.

[UPDATE 6:34 a.m.]

Fire PIO, Alton Trahan says that after 20 minutes of battling the blaze, the fire was brought under control. Firefighters remained on scene for 4 hours extinguishing the fire. The home sustained a total loss.

He also reported that the dwelling was unoccupied and no injuries were reported on the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
