32-year-old Nathaniel McCoy of Carencro was officially pronounced dead Tuesday after being on life support for nearly a week following an encounter with Carencro Police.
“He’d been in the hospital since [last] Wednesday and they did all kinds of tests just to make sure he had blood going to his brain. He did not… So he’d been on life support ever since,” says Denise Angelle, a family member of McCoy’s.
His family says it all started when officials responded to call on McCoy ‘disturbing the peace’ near Guilbeau Street in Carencro.
According to authorities, McCoy was tased by police during his arrest, something his family and friends say led to his death.
The case has been turned over to Louisiana State Police. They are not releasing any details about McCoy’s arrest and death; however, they say an investigation is still ongoing. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.
