Family gathering turned violent over the weekend in Opelousas

Opelousas Police arrested a man who opened fire at a family gathering over the weekend injuring one person.

Police say a dispute occured at the family gathering around 10:30 Saturday night in the 700 block of Lombard Street.

At some point, police said, Ronal Patin produced a handgun and allegedly fired the handgun at one of the other attendees striking that person once in the upper torso.

The injuries were not life threatening, and the victim was treated and released from a local hospital, police said. 

Patin was booked into the St. Landry Parish jail on a charge of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons and dangerous instrumentalities
