It was 47 years ago when four bandits approached a Mowata Ranch. Now a Eunice family recalls the gunfight at Frey Ranch.
News 10’s Katie Easter has the story you’ll only see on ten.
June 17, 1971 is an evening the Frey’s will never forget. Four armed robbers approached their ranch in Mowata
“Donna: “He came disguised as a sheriff, so we let him in, and he was armed.”
Donna Frey was just 11 years old.
Warren Frey: “Between my father and I, we were able to shoot and kill the head of the Dixie Mafia.”
His wife and four children were gagged and tied up.
“Warren Frey: “I lost my wife six years ago. I think she suffered from the most trauma. From her and my children being tied up in the house.”
Donna Frey: “My mother suffered the most, she stayed with a pistol by her side. she stayed scared.”
They have now written a book about the night. The book became a therapeutic exercise for Warren Frey.
“Donna Frey : “There’s therapist out there. Go out and talk about it. Don’t get depressed. This book has been really therapy for my dad. “
Warren Frey and his children did not expect the turn out to be so tremendous.
