VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) – A Ville Platte dog mom is heartbroken after one of her puppies was killed by her neighbor’s dog.
Peggy Cavins, dog mom of 8 rescues, came home to a crime scene after one of her dogs was killed in its own home
On December 11, Cavins says she was stepping out to grab dinner and her dogs were in the backyard, doing what she thought was playing with her neighbor’s pit bull who was on the other side of the fence.
When she returned home, she was faced with her worst nightmare.
“When I opened the door, the pit bull was in my house chasing all of the dogs. There was blood everywhere, I had a dead dog and two injured.”
Peggy believes her neighbor’s dog got in the yard by digging under the fence.
Once inside, it chased the other dogs into the home.
“He went through the doggie door. My dogs go in and out and that’s how he got in. I saw the pit bull, I finally got to it, grabbed the collar real tight and I drug it until I finally got it out the door, and went under the carport. That’s when I went to tell her to come get her dog and what her dog had done.
Peggy says she called the Evangeline Parish Sheriffs Office who did ticket the pit bull’s owner.
But the dog remained at home; which led to another incident on December 17th where Peggy says the pit bull jumped the fence and attacked another one of her dogs.
“I had my grandchildren in here the second time it came. He could have attacked my grandchildren!
According to the December 17 complaint report, the dog was taken to Lake Charles by the owner after the second incident.
We also learned the parish does not provide animal control services.
We did reach out to the police jury about a possible solution to animal control outside of the city limits, but as of news time, we have not gotten a response.
