NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) – Deputies are currently investigating a drive-by shooting in New Iberia, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Louis Ackal told News 10 there are three shooting locations that are under investigation.
According to witnesses two cars, a black Chrysler possibly the 300 model and a dark gray Nissan Altima shot back and forth at one another while speeding through the neighborhood.
The suspects fired shots that hit a business and also a house in the 500 block of East Pershing Street.
Ackal said an elderly woman was home at the time of the shooting. She was not injured but a bullet hit a mirror in her bedroom.
The sheriff believes the shootings are gang related but could not provide any further details as to the suspects or if anyone was injured.
“It’s our understanding that there is some type of riff between the 1100 Gang l, which is Anderson Street area and the Ann Street bunch. We’ve got deputies out looking for suspects, we’re trying to build information, it’s just frustrating.”
According to Akal, several people were outside at the time of the shooting but not many are talking adding In order to do their jobs, they need the community’s assistance to identify suspects.
