Crowley Police: Victim in Dec. 22 shooting dies, suspects still at large


CROWLEY, La. (KLFY)- Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard announced today that one of the victims of a recent shooting in Crowley has died.

Howard Claiborne, 47, sustained multiple gun shot wounds on Dec. 22 when two suspects opened fire in the 500 block of Dejean Circle.

“Our detectives are still working tirelessly to solve this now homicide in our city,” Broussard said today in a statement. “It is so disheartening that now a grieving family must lay to rest one of their family members over some senseless violence. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Claiborne’s family but it makes our resolve even more to find the person(s) involved and bring them to justice and possibly bring an end to all of this senseless violence.”

UPDATE: The three men shot in front of a home on Dejean Circle have been identified as Howard Claiborne, Gregory Troy Gray and Troy Harmon, according to the Crowley Post Signal.

Today, Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard told KLFY that one victim remains in serious condition. The other two victims have been released.

Police are still searching for the suspects and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.

ORIGINAL STORY: Three men were shot multiple times outside of a housing development on Dejean Circle tonight.

Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard said one victim is in critical condition. Witnesses said two masked suspects opened fire on the three men shortly before 5:20 p.m.

A motive has not been determined at this time, but theft has been ruled out, the chief said.

Police are now at the scene, which Broussard described as a “mostly quiet” neighborhood, searching for the two suspects.
